Writers & Book Group
♦

There is an activity planned for each group and members are also encouraged to bring something to contribute and share, e.g. a book review, a poem or story. Some past group activities have included: studies of various authors and poets; reading and discussing short stories; writing a collaborative short story; reading and writing one sentence stories or six word memoirs; writing exercises; and literary quizzes.
Second hand book shopping and occasional library visits are also scheduled. Members sometimes choose to have their work published in the newsletter for others to enjoy. This is a friendly, supportive and encouraging group where new members are always welcome.
November 2018
This month the group is visiting Chertsey Book Barn and having a session on the Origins of Idioms and Phrases.
Come along to take advantage of both opportunities. The Book Barn is a favourite for book lovers. The group continues to amaze us all with their creative talents.
Writing your own short one sentence story – Wednesday 22nd August
A sentence is a grammatically complete idea, it expresses a complete thought. All sentences have a noun or pronoun component called the subject (what the sentence is about, the topic of the sentence) and a verb part called the predicate (What is said about the subject). One exception to this is when some gives a command, e.g. Wait a minute! It is not easy to define a sentence. Grammarians do not all agree on what is or is not a sentence!
Come and have a go!
