Rangitata Salmon Farm Hatchery Visit

On Thursday the 4th of May 2017 Stanmore Road and West will be visiting the McKinnon’s Creek Hatchery near the mouth of the Rangitata River north of Timaru. This will be an interesting day trip. We will hopefully be able to see the salmon being milked for their eggs as well as seeing the year old hatchlings before they are released.

The hatchery plans to release around 80,000 hatchlings this year. The salmon released will head to sea for two years to feed before returning to where they were born. Only a tiny percentage will be expected to return as adult salmon. Last year only 120 adults returned but in a good year up to 900 fish may return.

Our thanks go to George W for making us aware of the opportunity to see this hatchery.

Check the Stanmore Road and West programmes for details.
Keep up the good work, consumer driven organisations are always empowering to clients.

I believe if people start attending from hospital, they are more likely to engage once living in the community. Keep keeping on!

Over the time as I see consumers grow and become more confident, I am amazed. The groups, activities and support given is well received by consumers, and family/whanau. You hold a valuable service, keep challenging.

Step Ahead has been very useful for our family member. It has given her strength and confidence to attempt things she would never have done in the past. She is meeting a lot of people with similar problems to her, and they can face new challenges together and help one another by talking about it.

Your service is excellent, keep up the good work. Being able to engage people into Step Ahead prior to discharge is very useful from our perspective, for the person, and focusses them on the community, not extending the inpatient stay.
